AREA OF CONSIDERATION:

U. S. citizens in the commuting area who are authorized sponsors or command-sponsored dependents of civilian and military personnel.

 

 

INTRODUCTION:

The position is located in the Library, Recreation Division of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department, US Naval Station Rota, Spain.

 

DUTIES:

Shelves books, magazines, and other library materials according to the system used in the library ensuring all materials are shelved in correct order. Reviews library’s collection to ensure library materials are maintained in correct order. Checks conditions of books, removes obsolete/damaged materials for librarian’s review and performs minor mending. Processes new, rebound, and reconditioned library materials. Assists with inventories of collections. Assists with automated and manual circulation duties, registering and deleting users, charging and discharging library materials, taking requests for reserves and interlibrary loans, and checking to ensure those requests are filled. Assists with overdue processing. Assists with library procurement/acquisition process. Explains library rules to users and assists them. Assists users in locating books and information in card catalogs, databases, and on the shelves, referring difficult questions to high staff member. Assists in maintaining and updating library statistics and filing. Uses a variety of word processing software to prepare and print a variety of letters, reports, memos, and other text documents. Assists in implementing programs, publicity, and the marketing of library services.

Assists users by answering questions regarding library services and rules. Performs clerical task such as: answer the phone, take messages, refer customers to the appropriate staff member, and prepare letters, reports, memos and other text documents.

Notifies appropriate staff member of problems in a timely manner.

Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must possess skill in dealing with the public. Must have experience in responsible clerical work that demonstrates the ability to perform satisfactorily at the grade level of the position. Must be able to read, write and speak English. Must have experience that demonstrates the ability to perform simple computer data processing. Typing skills are desirable.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

  • This position requires successful completion of: physical examination, Local Background Investigation and NACI Background.

  • Selected applicant will not lose any entitlement for future spouse preference eligibility (NAF/GS positions)

  • The incumbent will be required to work weekends, holidays and split shifts.

  • Work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; recurring activities such as bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, and reaching; pushing loaded book trucks; and recurring lifting of moderately heavy items. Incumbent must be physically able to frequently lift boxes of up to 40 pounds. Must be able to reach up to 72 inches with or without the assistance of a step stool.

  • Selected is subject to direct deposit of pay

  • Persons who are US Citizens and persons who are US Citizens and also citizens of Spain are not employable in a US Position.

  • If selected, military personnel must provide this office with written authorization from their command to work during off-duty hours.

  • NATO SOFA and Agreement on Defense Cooperation (ADC) between Spain and the United States are applicable when determining eligibility.
