AREA OF CONSIDERATION:

US Citizens in the local commuting area that are: current permanent NAF/APF employees, spouses or family members of Active Duty Military members, or spouses or family members of DOD Civilian Employees.

INTRODUCTION:

The purpose of the Child and Youth (CYP) Food Service Worker is to perform a variety of food preparation and food service tasks for the CYP. One position is located in a CDC and the other one in SAC, but both positions could be assigned to either location at any time.

DUTIES:

Incumbent performs tasks in food service preparation that require attention to work operations and follow and established sequence of work. These tasks have been grouped into the following categories:

Food Preparation and Service: Peeling potatoes, cutting, sorting and washing vegetables and fruits; assembling sandwiches; and measuring and weighing ingredients. Stocks food service carts with appropriate utensils required for family style dining in the classrooms or activity areas. Wraps, arranges, packages items, transport for serving to children and youth, and returns carts, dishes and leftover.

Kitchen Maintenance: Pre-rinses and washes pots, pans, dishes, glasses and silverware in either mechanical or manually according to sanitation regulations. Clean serving carts, food preparation areas, cupboards, drawers, and dishwashing areas. Remove inspection doors, strainer pans, screens, and spray arms for preventative maintenance and cleaning. Scrape, soaks, scour and scrub the heavier cooking utensils. Cleaning ceiling, exhaust hoods, spaces under and behind the kitchen equipment, washing floors and walls with powered cleaning equipment, cleaning walk-in refrigerators and freezers, and sanitizing garbage room. Maintains work area clean and order, adhering to NAVMED P5010 and all local policies and procedures. Operates, break down and cleans all electrical equipment. Stores sanitized dishes and silverware.

Food Storage: Labels and dates all items in refrigerators and freezers and stores leftovers in accordance with sanitation and health standards. Stores canned, boxed, and/or frozen items in food storage area. Unloads food and supplies from delivery trucks. Move heavy garbage cans when collecting and transferring trash from the work area to the disposal area.

Additional Responsibilities: complies with security, fire and sanitation rules, policies, procedures and regulations. Ensures compliance with US Agriculture (USDA) child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFT), and all pertaining standards, policies and regulations. Serves as a mandatory reporter to Family Advocacy and Child Protective Services as prescribed by local policy in the case of suspected incidences of child abuse and neglect. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

Must be 18 years of age and high school graduate or equivalent. Speak, read and write English. Possess and maintain ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds, walk, bend, stoop and stand on routine basis. Understanding of food handling techniques, personal hygiene standards and safe work procedures. Knowledge of basic arithmetic. Working knowledge of sanitation standards.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employee is required to obtain appropriate immunization against communicable diseases in accordance with recommendations from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), which includes the influenza vaccine.

  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a food handler’s card. Incumbent must satisfactorily obtain or complete required training certificates and maintain certifications or credentials required by federal, state or National Accreditation institutions utilized as part of DOD’s Child and Youth Programs.

  • Selectee will not lose entitlement for future spouse preference eligibility (NAF/GS positions)

  • Selectee is subject to direct deposit of pay

  • Positions are subject to an uncommon tour of duty, rotating and split shifts.

  • Persons who are Not-US Citizens and persons who are US Citizens and also citizens of Spain are not employable in a US Position.

  • NATO SOFA and Agreement on Defense Cooperation (ADC) between Spain and the United States are applicable when determining eligibility.
